Gold and Silver Prices

01-03-2026

Sadly, most Americans, and likely most people worldwide, are not paying attention to precious metals and the story they tell.

Rising gold and silver prices result from broader economic pressures and market behavior. Persistent inflation reduces the purchasing power of major currencies. This drives investors to seek assets that preserve value over time. Gold and silver have traditionally served this purpose, especially when real interest rates are low or negative. Low rates reduce the opportunity cost of holding non-interest-bearing assets.

Global economic and geopolitical uncertainty strengthens demand for precious metals as safe-haven assets. High government debt, concerns about currency stability, and economic uncertainty reduce confidence in fiat currencies. Both institutional and private investors increase exposure to gold and silver, seeing them as reliable stores of value.

Supply constraints also push prices higher. Mining is capital-intensive, regulated, and limited by viable deposits. Silver faces extra demand from electronics, renewable energy, and medical applications.

Five countries produce about 61% of global silver: Mexico 24%, China 13%, Peru 13%, Chile 6%, Bolivia 5%. China dominates refining and processing, controlling much of the world’s refined silver supply. China has tightened export controls from January 1, 2026, requiring government licenses for all silver exports. Only a few approved companies can export, limiting shipments and further tightening supply.

Overall, rising gold and silver prices reflect inflationary pressures, low real yields, economic uncertainty, strong demand, and constrained supply. Precious metals remain strategic global financial assets.

With all this said its still mind bogging to me that approximately 80% of Americans do not own any gold or silver bullion as an investment asset. That is a whole lot of people not paying attention!
