Is Being Human Still Relevant?

As we open a new year, I find myself asking an unsettling question. Will being human be considered irrelevant in the near future?

Everywhere we turn, we hear urgency around winning the artificial intelligence race. We are told America must win or face doom. However, few explain why this outcome is inevitable. Even fewer explain what happens to displaced humans afterward. If artificial intelligence performs faster and better than people, then what follows? Jobs disappear, but purpose does not automatically reappear. Unfortunately, that question remains largely unanswered.

At the same time, nearly every major nation carries unsustainable debt. There is no credible plan to repay it. Yet instead of addressing this reality, governments redirect attention elsewhere. Consequently, uncertainty quietly compounds.

Out of this distrust emerged cryptocurrency. It promised freedom from failing institutions. Fraud, waste, and abuse are on full display everywhere. Distrust of government continues to rise.

Still, people are now willing to openly accept an imaginary unit of wealth called cryptocurrency because of something called blockchain technology. The old-fashioned ledger books were too outdated, and simple math became irrelevant when you are allowed to create something out of nothing.

Ironically, the same institutions that once dismissed crypto now regulate it aggressively. Governments and banks reversed course. They embraced the system, then imposed new rules. Control returned through a different door. If everything becomes digital, physical cash becomes obsolete. As a result, traditional bank runs disappear. Yet individual autonomy weakens quietly. Freedom trades convenience without informed consent.

Technology has steadily eroded personal privacy. What once remained secret is now openly justified. It is labeled necessary for national security. Still, no one defines what national security truly means. Even more troubling, borders now blur without clear accountability. Actions once requiring military force now gain approval under a moral banner. Language shifts, and resistance fades. Normal becomes unrecognizable.

Folks, we are living in a profoundly distorted moment. Reality feels unstable. Logic bends daily. Strangely, the absurd keeps accelerating. For those paying attention, this moment demands reflection. We must decide what progress truly means. More importantly, we must decide what kind of humanity survives it.
