Put Me On Mute

Put Me On Mute

08-12-2025

Silence should come with age.

I’ve reached the point where I no longer answer my home phone, and Put Me On Mute explains why. It’s not because of the mysterious hum that recently appeared. According to Optimum, the problem is on my end. I know it’s not.

I ran the test myself.

To prove it, I unplugged all interior lines and tested the phone directly at the outside box. The buzz remained. So yes, Optimum, it’s definitely on your end. But the buzzing isn’t the real issue. It’s what the ringing brings: scams, sales pitches, and robocalls.

Scammers have hijacked my ringer.

Despite signing up for the National Do Not Call Registry, my phone continues to ring. Scammers don’t care. They spoof numbers and push products I didn’t ask for. I don’t even answer anymore. It’s safer and more peaceful that way.

My front door offers no escape.

Even my door gets daily visitors. I placed a “No Solicitation” sign clearly by the bell. Still, people knock. Jehovah’s Witnesses politely ignore the notice. While I respect their mission, I also respect my time and space. I want to be left alone.

The world feels more intrusive.

Some days, it feels like we need armor just to run errands. Between scams and societal tension, peace is hard to find. I’m half-joking, of course, but news headlines don’t make it easy to relax. You start to question how much access people should have to you.

Boundaries protect more than privacy.

Whether it’s phones, doorbells, or digital spaces, setting limits is vital. Wealth often invites attention. That’s why maintaining control over access matters. Silence isn’t rudeness, it’s self-preservation. And there’s power in controlling who reaches you.

Sometimes muting is necessary.

Put Me On Mute isn’t a complaint; it’s a declaration. I choose peace over constant interruptions. If you respect that, we’ll get along fine. If not, don’t be surprised when no one answers the bell.
