Many Chase Without Direction.
What is your purpose in life? Surprisingly, most people never take the time to answer that question. Instead, they chase money, status, or job titles. They hope more possessions will bring meaning; however, fulfillment rarely follows. As Dave Ramsey famously said, “We buy things we don’t need with money we don’t have to impress people we don’t like.” That line hits hard because it reflects how many people live. Still, what if the point of life isn’t about what you gain, but whom you serve?
Few Focus on Eternity.
Although we often discuss living with purpose, we tend to avoid thinking beyond the short term. Most people live by the hour, not the decade. Weeks slip by in a blur of meetings, obligations, and distractions. We scroll endlessly, binge-watch shows, and chase the next task. Meanwhile, we overlook what matters most. True purpose lies not in the temporary but in the eternal. Therefore, without pausing for deep reflection, we slowly drift away from what truly counts.
Love Is the Foundation.
Thankfully, Scripture offers a better path. In Matthew 22:37-39 (NIV), Jesus said: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart… [and] love your neighbor as yourself.” These are not casual suggestions—they form the very foundation of purpose. First, loving God aligns your heart. Then, loving others shapes your actions. It sounds simple, but it transforms everything.
Glorify God Daily.
Additionally, the Bible teaches us to glorify God in all we do. 1 Corinthians 10:31 (NIV) declares: “So whether you eat or drink… do it all for the glory of God.” Therefore, even ordinary moments—such as business emails or dinner conversations—can become sacred. Rather than separating life into spiritual and practical, God calls us to bring Him into everything.
Prioritize the Kingdom.
Instead of chasing every trend, God urges us to focus on His truth. Matthew 6:33 (NIV) says: “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness…” When you seek God first, clarity emerges. Purpose becomes easier to recognize. As a result, your needs are met in ways the world can’t deliver. The culture tells you to hustle. God says to trust.
You Were Designed for Impact.
More importantly, God made you on purpose. Ephesians 2:10 (NIV) explains: “We are God’s handiwork… created to do good works.” That means your life is no accident. Every skill, opportunity, and challenge fits into God’s plan. Rather than question your path, lean into the calling He prepared for you.
Walk Humbly With God.
Ultimately, Micah 6:8 (NIV) provides the clearest direction: “To act justly… love mercy… walk humbly with your God.” These three principles anchor your purpose. They guide decisions, shape character, and create a legacy. So, when someone asks, What is your purpose in life, remember that your answer has already been written.
