What Strength Are You Relying On?

01-04-2026

Many people enter a new year carrying resolutions and hopeful goals. At first, motivation feels strong and almost unstoppable. Often those intentions slowly fade as weeks pass. The reason usually has little to do with discipline alone. Too many people depend entirely on personal strength and insight. Sadly, that belief places pressure no one can truly carry. Most of us fall into this pattern without much resistance. Deep inside, independence feels safer than surrender. Convinced we are in control, we reject help from others. Daily life then becomes exhausting and overwhelming. Minds race endlessly, searching for answers and quick solutions. Fear follows us from morning until night.

When did you last speak honestly with the Lord? Real conversations require listening as much as speaking. True dialogue means allowing space for silence. Having one mouth and two ears matters more than we think. Lately, many prayers sound more like speeches than conversations. Perhaps we talk too much and listen too little.

Personally, I struggle with this reality. Admitting weakness does not come naturally to me. Weakness, however, reveals where God’s strength begins. Yes, Jesus loves me despite my failures. Love moved Him to give His life for my sins. Through that sacrifice, hope replaced eternal loss. Without Him, struggle and separation would remain constant.

Right now, I need intentional time alone with God. Silence must replace constant requests and demands. Instead of asking endlessly, seeking His will matters more. Belief in my own understanding often leads me astray. God already holds the full calendar of our lives. Before we act, He sees every outcome and season. While free will exists, His guidance patiently waits. Patiently, God invites us to trust His direction. Freedom grows when His will becomes our path. Psalm 139 reminds us we are fully known and seen.

I’ll leave you with one final question to ponder. Today, whose strength are you choosing to rely on?
