Water Requires Immediate Action

Water Requires Immediate Action

You can’t survive long without it.

When disaster hits, water requires immediate action. Most people underestimate how quickly thirst turns to danger. Without water, survival becomes nearly impossible after just three days. Planning isn’t optional—it’s essential if you care about long-term security and health.

One gallon per day isn’t enough.

Experts often suggest storing one gallon of water per person per day. But try living on that. On a weekend trip, I conducted a simple test. Using only a single gallon per day for drinking, cooking, and hygiene, I shut off the household water. It quickly revealed how challenging rationing becomes.

U.S. water use is excessive.

According to the EPA, the average American uses 100 gallons per day. In contrast, most Europeans use half that amount. In sub-Saharan Africa, the average is only two to five gallons. Our expectations don’t match global realities—or survival conditions.

Gallons are heavy and hard to store.

Each gallon of water weighs 8.34 pounds. While storing some water is wise, be careful not to go overboard.  Massive barrels may sound great, but moving them is a different story. Instead, invest in food-grade water containers that are easy to lift, rotate, and clean.

Bottled water has limitations.

While bottled water offers a short-term solution, the plastic breaks down over time, especially in warm storage areas like garages. Freezing can cause the bottles to burst. Over time, even sealed bottles can absorb odors. Rotate stock at least once a year to keep it fresh.

Invest in portable filtration tools.

The smart move is to supplement your water supply with filtration. Katadyn offers a solution for filtering unsafe water. Katadyn’s silver-core filters last for up to 13,000 gallons. For emergencies, tools like the WaterBOB let you fill a bathtub with 100 gallons of drinkable water.

Don’t delay. Water is life.

In every emergency plan, water requires immediate action. The wealthy don’t wait until store shelves are empty. They prepare early. If you’re serious about protecting your health, your family, and your independence, this is the place to start.
